Chile Economy Overview

Chile has a diversified market-based economy in which services, mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and international trade play major roles. The services sector contributes the largest share of GDP through finance, retail, telecommunications, transportation, tourism, and professional activities. Mining remains the country’s most important export industry, led by copper and increasingly supported by lithium production linked to the global transition toward electric vehicles and renewable energy.

Agriculture and food exports are also important, particularly fruit, wine, seafood, forestry products, and processed foods. Chile continues to invest in renewable energy, ports, digital infrastructure, green hydrogen, and value-added mineral processing. Its extensive network of trade agreements and relatively strong institutions support investment, export diversification, and long-term economic development.

Chile GDP Outlook

Chile’s economic outlook remains supported by global demand for copper and lithium, expanding renewable energy investment, and continued growth in services and export industries. Greater investment in clean energy, infrastructure, technology, and mineral processing could improve productivity and reduce dependence on raw commodity exports. However, changes in global metal prices, external demand, inflation, and domestic investment conditions may influence short-term growth. Chile is nevertheless expected to remain one of Latin America’s most competitive and resilient economies.
