Angola Economy Overview

Angola has a natural resource-based economy in which crude oil remains the principal source of exports, public income, and foreign currency. Offshore petroleum production supports related activities in engineering, transportation, and business services, while diamonds and other mineral resources contribute additional export revenue. This concentration makes overall performance sensitive to commodity prices and production levels.

Agriculture has considerable potential because of Angolaโ€™s land, water resources, and favorable growing conditions. Cassava, maize, bananas, coffee, sugarcane, and livestock support rural communities and domestic food supply. Construction, telecommunications, banking, retail, and transportation have expanded alongside urban development. Investments in roads, railways, ports, electricity, food processing, and domestic manufacturing are intended to create employment and build a more balanced economy beyond the petroleum sector.

Angola GDP Outlook

Angolaโ€™s economic outlook is shaped by oil production, commodity prices, public investment, and progress toward developing non-oil sectors. Agriculture, mining, fisheries, food processing, transportation, and construction offer opportunities to create jobs and broaden the productive economy. Improvements in electricity, roads, ports, and access to finance could encourage private investment. However, declining output from mature oil fields, foreign-currency pressures, inflation, public debt, and limited institutional capacity may continue to create challenges for stable and inclusive growth.
