Ivory Coast Economy Overview

Ivory Coast has one of West Africa’s largest and most diversified economies, with agriculture serving as a major source of exports, employment, and rural income. The country is the world’s leading cocoa producer and also exports cashews, coffee, rubber, palm oil, bananas, and cotton. Abidjan functions as an important financial, transportation, and commercial center for the wider region.

Industrial activity includes cocoa processing, petroleum refining, food production, construction materials, chemicals, textiles, and consumer goods. Banking, telecommunications, retail, transportation, and real estate have expanded alongside rapid urbanization. Continued investment in highways, electricity generation, ports, industrial zones, and agricultural processing is helping Ivory Coast move toward higher-value production and stronger regional trade.

Ivory Coast GDP Outlook

Ivory Coast’s economic prospects are supported by infrastructure development, agricultural exports, urban construction, and the growth of regional services. Expanding local processing of cocoa, cashews, rubber, and other commodities could increase export value and create industrial employment. Investment in electricity, ports, transport corridors, telecommunications, and manufacturing zones may further strengthen the country’s position in West Africa. The outlook remains vulnerable to commodity-price movements, climate pressures, public debt, global demand, and fluctuations in agricultural production.
