Mozambique Economy Overview

Mozambique's economy is supported by agriculture, mining, energy, transportation, fisheries, and services. Agriculture employs much of the population, producing cashew nuts, cotton, sugar, tobacco, maize, and cassava. Large offshore natural gas projects have significantly increased investment in the energy sector.

Mining of coal, graphite, rubies, and heavy mineral sands further supports exports. Construction, transportation, ports, logistics, telecommunications, and tourism continue to expand as infrastructure development improves national connectivity.

Mozambique GDP Outlook

Mozambiqueโ€™s outlook is closely linked to liquefied natural gas projects, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, and regional trade. The development of offshore gas reserves could substantially increase exports and investment if security and project conditions improve. Graphite, coal, agriculture, ports, electricity, and tourism also provide growth opportunities. Armed conflict, high public debt, climate disasters, poverty, project delays, governance concerns, and dependence on large resource investments remain significant risks.
