Zambia Economy Overview

Zambia's economy is dominated by mining, particularly copper production, which accounts for a large share of exports and government revenue. Cobalt, emeralds, gold, and other minerals further strengthen the country's mining sector. Agriculture also plays an important role, producing maize, tobacco, cotton, sugar, soybeans, and livestock.

Manufacturing includes food processing, beverages, cement, chemicals, and construction materials. Wholesale trade, transportation, finance, telecommunications, and tourism contribute to the growing services sector. Hydropower provides much of the country's electricity, supporting mining operations and industrial production.

Zambia GDP Outlook

Zambiaโ€™s future economic performance will remain closely connected to copper production, global metal prices, electricity supply, and debt management. Rising demand for copper and other minerals used in renewable energy systems could encourage new mining and processing investment. Agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and regional trade provide opportunities for diversification. Drought, hydropower shortages, currency pressure, public debt, regulatory uncertainty, and dependence on commodity exports may continue to affect growth.
