Zimbabwe Economy Overview

Zimbabwe has substantial mineral, agricultural, and human resources, but prolonged monetary and institutional instability has constrained their full economic value. Mining is led by gold, platinum-group metals, chrome, diamonds, coal, and lithium. These resources account for a major share of export earnings and attract investment into extraction and processing projects.

Agriculture produces tobacco, maize, cotton, sugar, horticultural goods, and livestock, although output is highly affected by rainfall and electricity availability. Manufacturing includes food products, beverages, chemicals, textiles, metals, and construction materials. Retail, informal trade, telecommunications, and remittances support household activity. Currency instability, inflation, power shortages, limited financing, and aging infrastructure remain major barriers to production.

Zimbabwe GDP Outlook

Zimbabwe has growth potential in mining, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and renewable energy, particularly if macroeconomic stability improves. Rising interest in lithium, gold, platinum, and mineral processing could attract investment and increase export earnings. Better rainfall and electricity supply would support farming and industry. Persistent inflation, currency instability, power shortages, limited access to international finance, policy uncertainty, weak infrastructure, and low business confidence continue to present major barriers to sustainable expansion.
